The Ardbeg Alligator, a 2011 Committee Release from the Islay-based distillery, generated significant anticipation and demand. Its name is derived from the distinctive appearance of the interior of certain maturation casks, resembling alligator skin due to extensive charring. This additional charring imparts a unique character to the expression, setting it apart from other Ardbegs of similar age.
